Hutchinson High School Bands

Hutchinson High School offers two music theory courses: Intro to Theory, during the first trimester, and AP Theory, during the second and third trimesters.  Intro to Theory is a prerequisite for AP.  In Intro to Theory, students will develop their ability to recognize, understand, and describe the basic materials and processes of Western music.  In AP Theory, students will refine those skills and apply them directly to Western classical music.  Each class alternates with Ear Training/Sight Singing, with the aim of developing students’ ability to recognize and notate elements of pitch and rhythm by ear.
